Wattles family papers, 1776-1865.

Primarily correspondence between members of a family originally from Lebanon, Connecticut. In his letters, William Wattles described his trip to upper New York State by boat, and the opportunities available to him there. He also wrote to his second wife before and after their marriage. L. L. Harrington wrote from Michigan about economic opportunities out west as compared to Connecticut. On his return to Lebanon, he was active in the temperance movement. Also part of the collection are Masonic-related documents sent to William concerning Washington Encampment No. 1, William's journal of religious services, 1819-1827 and what appears to be a book of prayers. Correspondents in the collection include Juliet Harrington Wattles, Abigail Hazard Wattles, Denison Wattles, and William A. Buckingham.
